Chapter 1200-4-5, Permits, Effluent Limitations and Standards
The Division of Water Pollution Control
has posted the final revision of Chapter 1200-4-5 of the Tennessee
Water Quality Act of 1977 pertaining to Wastewater Permitting, including
new provisions for CAFOs (concentrated feeding operations). A mature
dairy cow is now defined as a cow that has previously given birth
to a calf. For dairy animals, a Class I (Large) CAFO is defined
as 700+ cows and a Class II (Medium) CAFO is 200 to 699 cows.
The web address of the complete 28-page
article and two appendices/forms follows. CAFOs are specifically
addressed in the provisions of “1200-4-5-.14 Animal Feeding
Operations” (pages 22 through 28) and are also subject to
all applicable provisions listed in pages 1 through 22.
